FAQ

How do I clean my Trollbeads and chains?

Trollbeads are made from oxidized sterling silver which gives it its characteristic look. Like all other sterling silver it might naturally tarnish over time. We recommend that you use a silver polishing cloth, or that you contact a Trollbeads retailer with a rotary tumbler. Do not use any cleaning solutions or chemicals as it will remove the oxidized finish. Also avoid ultrasonic cleansers.

Do not wear your Trollbeads in the shower, sauna, hot tub, swimming pool, or ocean. They may contain chemicals (such as chlorine and bromine) or minerals that will accelerate the tarnishing process. Exposure to soap, body lotions, hairspray, perfumes, and makeup may also affect the finish of your jewelry. Avoid wearing your silver jewelry when using household cleaning products. To remove light dirt and fingerprints from your Trollbeads product, add a small amount of mild liquid dish soap to lukewarm water, scrub with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly in clean water.

The beads will oxidize (begin to look black) after contact with oxygen and water, but you can simply polish them back to life with a soft cloth (see Why do my silver beads become black?)

Why do my silver beads become black?

The silver beads are made from 92.5% silver mixed with copper, when the copper oxidizes it becomes black, and then we polish it, until the silver shows again. This is what gives your Trollbeads the depth of shadows and interesting character.

Why do my gold beads sometimes look silver?

As with all metals, the color from silver beads can rub off onto the gold beads, as they rub against each other on your bracelet. You can simply polish the gold beads with a soft cloth to bring back the shine and gold color.

Any piece of silver jewelry will begin to oxidize over time. If your Trollbeads start to become black you can simply polish them with a soft cloth to bring back the silver shine.

Are my Trollbeads guaranteed?

We offer a 100 % guarantee on all our products.

Why is my pair of earrings not exactly the same color?

The natural stones we use can vary in color but we have tried our best to pair them up as much as possible so that the two earrings in each pair match each other.

There is no hallmark stamp in my retired bead. Is it fake?

In the beginning of Trollbeads we didn't stamp all the beads. Hence, if it is an older bead, it does not mean it is a fake one. The last couple of years all products have hallmark stamps on them.

Hallmarks:

Silver/Glass: 925S LAA

Gold beads: 750 LAA

Gold chains: 585 LAA

Please be aware, however, that up until 2006 only 90 % of the silver and gold beads had a hallmark stamp. From January 2006 all gold and silver beads were stamped. Glass beads were first stamped from May 2008. Therefore there are many genuine beads out there made before that time, which were not stamped.

Where are the Trollbeads produced?

Trollbeads are produced in different locations around the world, depending on the product type or material being used. We try to find countries that have tradition and understanding for each product's particular needs.

My bead/lock/necklace broke. What do I do?

You are more than welcome to return it to the retailer you bought it from. Always remember to bring the receipt. The retailer will then replace it and send it back to us. We have a guarantee on the items, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

How many carats of gold are there in the gold beads and gold chains?

All of our gold beads are made from 18 k gold, while all of the gold chains are made from 14 k gold, as this is stronger and can withstand more. Gold leaf encased in the glass beads is 22 k gold.

What is the difference between Diamond, Zirconia and Brilliant?

Zirconias and Brilliants (57-58 facets) are a certain cut of the diamond. They are both diamond, but the name depends on the number of facets in the cut.

Why are the glass beads not all the same size?

The glass beads are handmade, and therefore they vary in size and the pattern might be slightly different from bead to bead, but that is part of the uniqueness of glass beads and makes every bead special.

Are Trollbeads made of Murano glass?

No, not exactly. Murano glass is glass that origins from the tiny island of Murano in Italy. We do use the highest quality glass available, but it is sourced from elsewhere, and while we are aware of other companies using the term 'Murano glass' to describe the quality of their glass, we feel this would be dishonest to our collectors.

Why doesn't my glass bead look like it does on the website/in the brochure?

All of our glass beads are handmade and can therefore vary.
